Kate is based in Pennsylvania. She grew up in nature, and from an early age she was in the forests of New Hampshire building forts, planting seeds and unearthing bird nests. Hiking expanded the world around her and introduced her to photography as a way of expression when words fell short.
As a young adult she attained an undergraduate degree in plant biology from the University of New Hampshire where she also took the last film photography course they offered. She went on to earn her doctorate in Environmental Horticulture from the University of Florida. Kate’s professional career has been grounded in plants, from academia that taught her how to look deeper and to craft studies to answer questions we don’t have the answers for yet, to industry where she held international roles leading new plant development, research, and operations for ornamental crops grown for the global market.
Today she builds upon that expertise to contribute to global solutions facing plants and ecosystems in an ongoing effort to bring as much of the biodiversity that exists upon this incredible planet with us into the future. Kate sees her photography as way to share her emotional connection with the natural world, to see through her eyes its effortless grace and beauty. Her work offers moments of pause and reflection, giving a chance to feel connected to something much larger than ourselves.
